A Length of Elegant Kasuri Cotton: Repeat Pattern

$85.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
52" x 13 1/2", 132 cm x 34 cm

This is a length of elegantly patterned indigo dyed cotton kasuri or ikat fabric.

The vertically-based design which repeats along the length of this piece was created by resisting the warp yarns before they were woven.

The pattern is based on a stepped design: one of the two elements is solid shape where the other one seems to mimic the section of three bamboo pieces.

The cloth is most certainly hand woven and the yarns were also dyed by hand.

A lovely length of a repeat patterned ikat cloth from old Japan.
