A Fragment Showing Three Kasuri Patterns: Futon Cover

$110.00 USD

early twentieth century
42" x 26", 106.75 cm x 66 cm

This visually delightful panel is hand stitched from four pieces of three different patterns of kasuri cloth, the result being something wonderful to look at.

The bottom two panels show a checkerboard with strong diagonals whose light and dark areas form a pinwheel effect. The top, left piece is an elongated checkerboard design while the upper right fragment is beautifully unusual in its sophistication and delicacy of pattern.

The cloth overall is in good, used condition. The combination of patterns as devised by whomever made this (it is a fragment taken from a futon cover) certainly is inspired.

A beauty.
