An Unused Bolt of Cotton Kasuri: Bingo Kasuri

$90.00 USD

mid twentieth century
as shown: 1" x 14 1/2" x 7", 2.5 cm x 37 cm x 17.75 cm

It is debatable if one should acquire this full bolt of unused cotton kasuri cloth for its appeal as a object, or should one break it open and create something with it?

It is a length of cloth sufficient in length for stitching an entire kimono and it measures over 10 meters: it is a kind of kasuri or ikat called Bingo kasuri so-called because of the place where it was woven, Bingo, in present-day Hiroshima prefecture.

Wonderful vintage labels are stuck to the surface of this unopened, unused bolt which is woven from 100% cotton.

Really delightful--and usable.
