An Old Cotton Kasuri Money Pouch: Roll
$50.00 USD
ca. early twentieth century
13 1/4" x 6 1/4", 33.5 cm x 16 cm
This long, pouch-like indigo dyed kasuri cotton bag was used to carry money or valuables, and by the worn look of this bag, this one was used hard.
The material is indigo dyed kasuri or ikat; the bag is lined and what seems to be the original cotton cording is still in place.
Have a look at the accompanying detail photos to see the surface abrasion to the piece, the oxidation to the indigo--and also to see how the bag was meant to be folded and closed using the cording.
A lovely old utilitarian textile from old Japan.
