An Green Toned Katazome Length: Hand Spun Cotton

$95.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
72" x 13 3/4", 182.9 cm x 34.9 cm

This is a quite long piece of katazome cotton that shows a lovely green tone; the green color is a result of indigo being overdyed with a yellow dye, possibly turmeric.

The pattern is a variant on the classic tatewaku which are parallel, undulating, vertically-oriented lines that are sometimes referred to as "rising steam."

The undulating lines occasional sprout a chrysanthemum bud and each of the swelled areas of the lines is filled with a little bouquet of dark and light chrysanthemums.

The condition is good and used and the cloth is just what you want to see: hand spun, hand woven yarns.

This is a very nice length of over dyed indigo katazome cotton cloth with a pattern and design that is not often seen.

Lovely.
