An Absolutely Beautiful Length of Hand Loomed Cotton: Cool Plaid
ca. late nineteenth century
60 1/2" x 13 1/2", 153.5 cm x 34 cm
This is a length of very rich and subtle indigo dyed cotton, the pattern being a soft, complex plaid.
As we often mention on this site, old textiles should show ito aji or thread taste, usually due to the individual cotton threads being hand spun, as seems to be the case in this gorgeous length.
The color is warm and conjurs up thoughts of old Japan. There are three, lentil-sized holes along the length, otherwise this handloomed piece of cotton is in good condition.
