A Wonderful Looking Plaid Boro: One-and-a-half Loom Widths
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
70" x 18", 178 cm x 45.5 cm
Take a long look at this lovely cotton boro textile.
The play of its fifteen or so small cotton patches which are hand stitched to the bold, checked base cloth is really delightful, and a quick glance at this posting may not do this piece justice.
The checked cloth is beautifully proportioned and colored, and it is the visual scale change between this field of intersecting stripes against the small cotton patches has great visual pull.
The boro cloth is hand stitched from one-and-a-half loom widths of hand loomed cotton.
Alluring and artful.
