A Wonderful Length of Katazome Cotton: Ropes
early twentieth century
50" x 13 1/4", 127 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a treasure: this length of katazome dyed cotton shows a very desirable and attractive, that of a repeat pattern of ropes.
The fanciful placement of the ropes within the structure of the repeated design is beautiful, and the overall mood of the piece is light hearted. This kind of pattern immediately draws one's attention and extremely visually alluring. Please note that the bottom half of the panel shows patterns due to light fading.
It also speaks to us of traditional design in old Japan, and shows how beautifully everyday objects can be transformed into a wonderfully memorable design.
A very collectible katazome pattern.
