A Width and a Half of Shirakage Shibori: Clouds of Grey Markings
early to mid twentieth century
46" x 17", 117 cm x 43 cm
This is a well-worn length of beautifully dyed shirakage shibori which shows, on its top half, a mottled cloud of pale grey staining.
That said, this old piece of shibori--which measures 1 1/2 loom widths--can be applied to any manner of textile projects and the grey staining could probably used to some effect.
Shirakage shibori is a difficult technique to master and this fragment of it, shown in the asanoha or hemp leaf pattern, is a classic motif rendered beautifully.
