A Wide Sakiori Obi: Beautiful Shades of Rag Woven Indigo Cotton

$135.00 USD

mid twentieth century
120" x 9 3/4", 305 cm x 25 cm

This is a very handsome sakiori obi, which is a kimono sash woven from rags taken from everyday cloth.

What is wonderful about this sakiori obi is its blue color.  The cotton warp yarns are light grey and the weft yarns are various shades of blue rag, so the finished effect is one of a very soft blue color.

The obi is in very good worn condition and its free of holes and stains.  As is often the case with obis such as this one, there is a  faint crease running down the center of the length of the obi; this crease halved its width and stiffened the obi when worn.

A fantastically elegant textile, this one is meant for someone who has collected many sakiori obi and who has been waiting for an indigo dyed piece to come along.

Gorgeous.
