A Very Wide Pale Toned Sakiori Obi: Ragweave
$100.00 USD
mid twentieth century
136" x 11 1/2", 345.5 cm x 29 cm
This is a lovely and quite wide sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns seem to be of cotton (maybe rayon) and weft yarns are a soft tones of ecru, mottled pale blue and mottled purple with regularly placed, narrow black bars.
This handsome obi is in good, used condition with just a hint of surface abrasion and with a faint crease that runs down the center of the cloth, showing that when worn, this obi was folded in half lengthwise.
A handsomely colored folk textile.
