Such banners, known as \u003cem\u003enoboribata\u003c\/em\u003e, often depicted images of masculine ideals such as bravery, perseverance and strength.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn this case we see a carp that is shown leaping upward and against a waterfall. The idea here is a traditional one, which is that \u003cspan\u003eif the carp has the audacity, courage and determination to\u003c\/span\u003e conquer the waterfall and jump above it, the carp would be magically transformed into the noble, mythical dragon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe drawing and the dyeing on this \u003cem\u003enoboribata\u003c\/em\u003e are sure, rich and elaborate.
