A Very Faded and Beautifully Patterned Katazome Length: Faux Shibori
late nineteenth century
45 1/2" x 13", 115.5 cm x 33 cm
Not only does theĀ beautiful light fading to this indigo katazome length enhance the delicacy of the resist dyed pattern it also serves to accentuate the luscious hand spun cotton yarns from which this length was woven.
The powdery blue tonesĀ on this faded length are marvelous and they serve the light hearted design well.
We see butterflies, cherry blossoms and other types of blooming flowers, many of which are stenciled to appear as shibori or tie dye, and ingenious effect sometimes employed by katazome artisans and designers.
Some grey dye was used judiciously in parts of the design, the grey is now faded and softened, again, producing a gentle effect.
It goes without saying that this is a very lovely length of old katazome cotton, made even better for its hand spun cotton yarns and its remarkably good design.
Excellent.
