A Two Panel Piece of Double Sided Katazome: Roundels
early twentieth century
33" x 26", 83.75 cm x 66 cm
This lovely two-panel piece of indigo dyed katazome cotton shows a charming repeat pattern of myoga or zingiber/ginger.
The contrast between the resisted white roundels showing the stylized myoga and the deep, blue ground is striking, probably because the design was resist dyed on both its sides in order to create this crisp tonal effect.
The cotton is of nice weight and the piece is hand stitched. It is in good, used condition with some minor surface abrasion.
A fanciful and delightful piece of old katazome dyed cotton.
