A Two Panel Kasuri Boro: Home Spun Indigo Dyed Cotton
early to mid twentieth century
20 1/2" x 27", 52 cm x 68.5 cm
This boro fragment from a futon cover is made of very beautiful cloth. The base cloth is of indigo dyed cotton which is hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns. The botanical indigo is beautifully warm in tone and color. The kasuri pattern of regularly spaced, small plaid islands is beautifully simple.
Positioned in the exact center of this cloth is a wonderfully contrasting piece of kasuri cotton; stitched to the left hand side of the boro cloth is more kasuri cotton, in this case we see slivers of egasuri or picture kasuri, which show cranes.
Just lovely.
A gorgeous piece of kasuri boro cotton with superbly good threads.
