A Square of Lightweight Shibori Dyed Cotton: Tiny Patches

$40.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
23" x 25", 58.5 cm x 63.5 cm

This is an almost-square piece of drapey cotton that has been dyed in a tied shibori method: the entire surface of the cloth is a concentration of tied-off shibori, in this case it is called miura.

The indigo is dark in tone and the undyed areas show a bit of yellowing. The actual cloth itself is more than likely machine loomed as it is of a width much wider than the traditional Japanese hand loomed cottons.

There are four tiny mending patches and a spray of very small holes, the patches and one of the holes depicted on the accompanying detail photos.

A richly colored and textured old textile, probably taken from a garment.
