A Small Indian Pouch: Bihari Sujani
ca. mid twentieth century
7" x 5", 17.5 cm x 12.5 cm
This very small, pocket sized bag--more of a pouch--is said to have been made in the Indian state of Bihar; it appears that it was crocheted of fine and sturdy cotton yarns.
It is a fascinating pattern what with its outwardly radiating stripes of slightly faded and worn red, orange and black colors, and its lovely pompoms at the bottom two corners. A very long, flat woven cord--also decorated with a pompom--is meant to be used as a closure.
A beautiful and graphically appealing small bag, this is a very sturdy little thing, and has a lot of visual appeal. In good condition.
Interesting and beautiful.
