A Silk and Flannel Han Juban: Rich Colors
$50.00 USD
mid twentieth century
30" x 48", 76 cm x 122 cm
This kimono-shaped garment is a han juban, or half under-kimono, that is hand stitched from commercially milled textiles. The body is cotton flannel, or neru, as it is called in Japan and the sleeves are silk.
The flannel body is richly colored and shows the traditional Japanese design called asa no ha or hemp leaf. The sleeves show rows of stylized irises.
In good condition and certainly still wearable (the dimensions noted above are shoulder to hem x sleeve tip to sleeve tip).
