A Sekka Shibori Diaper: Clamp Dyeing

$30.00 USD

mid twentieth century
20" x 12 1/2", 51 cm x 31.75 cm

This indigo dyed cotton cloth measures as 20" or 51 cm in length, when in reality it is twice that since this is length of cotton has been stitched as a "tube," short end to short end.

It is a diaper and is dyed in the itajime shibori or clamp dyed method.

The cotton would have been folded in a series of triangular folds, then clamped, and then the edges would have been dyed.  The result is this field of blue, six pointed "flowers" which are sparsely arranged on a white ground.

Seemingly unused, this hand stitched itajime shibori diaper in good, clear condition.
