A Sashiko Stitched Recycled Diaper: Patched
$30.00 USD
mid twentieth century
13" x 24 1/2", 33 cm x 62 cm
This patched and distressed oblong cotton textile is hand stitched and layered of two pieces.
The pieces are layered on top of each other and the surface of the cloth on both its sides shows splitting and tearing. On one side there is a good-sized patch on one corner.
Cloth of this type, shape and dimension are said to be diapers and this one could possibly have been one or could possibly have been intended to have been one.
In any case it is a lovely old boro cloth that is rich in simple history and old ways of doing things.
