A Sakiori Obi: Multi-Colored Warp
mid twentieth century
112" x 6", 284.5 cm x 15 cm
This is a lovely, warm-toned sakiori obi which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven with a shredded cloth weft.
The warp yarns of this thickly woven obi alternate in stripes of red, blue and yellow producing a striped effect; the yellow yarns lend an overall warm tone to the obi. The weft yarns--made of rag--are mottled due to the variegated feed of the cotton rag and the colors of the weft are in a range of primary colors: red, yellow and blue.
The obi is in good condition overall with one bean-sized stain, faint on one side, darker on the other. The darker of the two stains is shown on the accompanying detail photos and is not easy to discern when looking at the piece in person.
A really lovely, vintage sakiori obi.
