A Rustic Small Wooden Tray: Southwest China
ca. early to mid twentieth century
10" x 14" x 1 1/4", 25.5 cm x 35.5 cm x 3 cm
This is a small, rustic, wooden tray which comes from Southwest China: the tray is the size of a picture frame, if you can imagine that.
The wood is lightweight and is of a rich, brown color--it seems to be hand planed. The tray shows traces of a black finishing substance--maybe lacquer--that most likely once covered the entire surface, but now it can be seen as abraded patches, which add to its charm.
The tray is set into four mitered corners and it is constructed using wooden pegs.
A lovely little thing with a lovely surface, material and color.
