A Playfully Colored Narrow Sakiori Obi: Rag Weave
mid twentieth century
106" x 4 3/8", 269 cm x 11 cm
This is playfully colored sakiori obi is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven with a weft of shredded cloth.
The warp yarns of this narrow obi are neutral grey in tone, producing a muted effect against the strident colors of the weft and thus softening the overall color of the obi.
The weft yarns--made of rag--alternate in color to produce a more or less regular pattern up the obi. The weft yarns are pink, green, mottled maize and both solid and mottled purple.
The obi is in very good condition overall with no discernible stains, frays or holes.
A really lovely, cheery sakiori obi.
