A Patched Silk Panel: Beautiful When Back Lit
$40.00 USD
early twentieth century
60" x 14", 152.4 cm x 35.5 cm
This length of fairly stiff silk cloth is of a non-discernable darkish tone and is hand stitched from two pieces. There are ten patches hand stitched to the surface.
The lead photo here shows the piece at its best, that is, back lit. Keep in mind that on this image you can see the world behind it, those colors and patterns are not part of the cloth.
The length is also very interesting when seen head-on and not against light as it has a good grain to the surface and very nice tone-on-tone patching.
There are ingrained creases, light fading and some surface abrasion.
