A Patched Boro Length: Lovely Stripes

$60.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth century
61" x 13 3/4", 155 cm x 35 cm

This is a really lovely and old length of hand loomed cotton cloth, which was woven from hand spun cotton yarns.  The base cloth, a complex, indigo dyed stripe, is really beautifully composed and shows lovely, subtle colors.

Onto the striped, cotton base cloth there are five hand stitched patches, the most predominate one--a contrasting, solid blue cotton patch--shows a wonderful squiggle of white sashiko stitching in its center.

During its lifetime this piece was used hard, as is understandable, and this length shows some light surface abrasion and some stress, but otherwise its in good condition for its age, and this wear gives this lovely boro length character.

Really attractive.
