A Narrow Length of Layered Boro: Hand Loomed Cottons
ca. late nineteenth century
42" x 10", 106.5 cm x 25.5 cm
This is an extremely lovely length of boro cloth, its size is created by three pieces hand stitched together.
The top part, the faded, crowded and delicate warm blue checked cotton is laid over hand spun, hand woven, indigo dyed cotton which comprises the balance of this entire textile.
The hand loomed checked cotton is beautiful and it conveys a rich feeling of 19th century Japanese cottons; note the slightly off-kilter, narrow patch at the top of this length.
A marvelous piece of old cotton, rich in ito aji or thread taste, and of a very soulful character.
Really lovely.
