A Lovely Blue Plaid Boro Length: Stark Patches
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
57" x 12", 144.5 cm x 30.5 cm
The beauty in this boro length is from the soft, low contrast indigo dyed plaid cloth and the rich contrast of the four applied patches.
The base cloth is beautifully worn and very soft in the hand; it almost has the feel of a cotton flannel; it is that soft and supple.
Two faint stains, shown in the accompanying photos.
A lovely, unassuming, and richly colored length of cloth: a humble and beautiful boro textile from old Japan.
