A Length of Very Faded Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: Sparkling Pattern

$95.00 USD

late nineteenth century
63" x 14",160 cm x 35.5 cm

The extreme light fading to this length of indigo dyed cotton katazome has softened the overall pattern and has created a new kind of visual appeal to this length.

The light fading has enhanced the beauty of the grain of the cloth which is hand woven from hand spun cotton yarns. Aside from that, the pale, dusty, faded blue is a beautiful color tone, maybe more beautiful than its darker-toned original.

The pattern is complex. It shows an large-scale and vigorous background of arabesque which serves to showcase over sized fantasy flowers that hold traditional designs in their centers.

The design is enhanced by a grey tone, also faded.

And there is a spray of dark, small stains on the cloth, some of which is shown on the accompanying detail photos. These small stains do not interfere with the overall beauty of the katazome length, they just serve to show that the cloth was used over a good deal of time.

Beautiful.
