A Length of Two Process Shibori: Unusual and Beautiful
mid twentieth century
26" x 13 1/4", 66 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a strange and beautiful length of indigo dyed cotton which shows two shibori processes: one is a pleated technique that yields stripes and the other seems to be a stitched process which shows a repeat of unusual, repeating arcs.
More than likely this fragment is taken from a yukata which is an unlined, cotton summer kimono, but it is unclear if the fanciful pattern dyed onto this fragment decorated the entire yukata, or if this piece was some kind of shibori experiment.
Its pattern is very unusual.
