A Length of Two Collar Pieces: Hanten or Happi
mid twentieth century
76" x 14", 193 cm x 35.5 cm
This length of indigo dyed cotton cloth is hand stitched up its center from two collar pieces from an unmade hanten or happi, a resist dyed jacket worn at festivals or for work.
The cotton is of a good, sturdy weight and may not be hand woven. Please note the hole to the bottom of this very handsome length.
This fragment taken from a futon cover is a beautiful example of recycled, cotton cloth.
