A Length of Taisho Era Shibori: Bamboo Leaves

$70.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
56" x 13", 142 cm x 33 cm

This is a lovely length of indigo dyed cotton shibori which shows a lushly rendered repeat of a background design showing stylized counterweights called fundo tsunagi. Bamboo leaves are in the foreground. This length was taken from a yukata which is an unlined, casual summer kimono.

There is a faint grey cast under the indigo dyed blue color that is dominant: this kind of greyed background is a common trait for shibori made around the Taisho era (1912-1926).

There are ingrained creases on this length due to its former life as a yukata. The piece is in good, used condition.

Really lovely.
