A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Lavender and Indigo
mid twentieth century
53" x 13", 134.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of shibori dyed cotton that was taken from a yukata, an unlined, casual cotton kimono. The yukata was well-worn as can be seen by the fairly noticeable faint stain and hole to the cloth both shown on the accompanying detail photo.
The lengths shows a ground of pale lavender colored miura shibori; down the length are three full medallions whose center is indigo tie-dyed shibori, a rich contrast to the pale lavender ground.
The cotton itself is of a good weight and although worn, this length has charm and well-designed shibori dyed decoration.
