A Length of Shibori Cotton: Strange Motif
mid twentieth century
54" x 13 1/4", 137 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a length of shibori dyed cotton that was taken from an unlined, summer kimono called a yukata. The blue color is meant to mimic indigo but more than likely a synthetic dye was use used to create this color.
The biomorphic shapes that make this pattern are most unusual which is a reason to acquire this length of old shibori. As it was taken from a garment, there are some ingrained creases as can be seen in the accompanying detail photos.
Recommended for its uniqueness and its strange beauty.
