A Length of Resist Dyed Boro: Bold Roundels
late nineteenth century
63 1/2" x 12 3/4", 161 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a length of very nice hand spun, hand woven cotton that has been resist dyed with boldly graphic roundels. On this fragment, two roundels are shown in full; two are partially imprinted.
There are two applied cotton mending patches on this length, both shown on the detail photos that accompany this post.
The cotton shows an overall patina from wear, which helps to reveal the lovely hand spun nature of the cotton yarns, always an important detail when collecting Japanese folk textiles.
A really lovely length of cloth with a very nice pattern and good age.
