A Length of Patched Shirakage Cotton: Mid Century Shibori
mid twentieth century
54" x 13", 137 cm x 33 cm
This is a hearty length of shirakage shibori cotton, one that shows a great deal of wear from the slightly darkened white cotton and from the single mending patch which sits in the center of the cloth.
The vigorous, muscular nature of the shibori pattern is in perfect harmony with the well-worn base cloth; the indigo dye of the shibori is most likely not natural, but synthetic.
A beautiful length of good shibori that bears the traces of age and wear.
