A Length of Patched Katazome: Two Patterns
$80.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
62" x 13", 157.5 cm x 33 cm
This is a fairly long piece of grey-colored katazome dyed cotton that has been patched with two large-scale, white-on-blue patches.
The base cloth shows a subtle pattern of geometric design, the pattern made more subtle by its relatively close tonal palette.
Against this we see a large, boldly-patterned patch of chrysanthemums and arabesques and a smaller one showing a stylized flower.
Both patches against the grey ground provide a visual impact that is very much in the spirit of the genre of Japanese folk textiles.
A handsome length in good condition.
