A Length of Nagoya Sarasa: Large-Scale Bamboo Leaves

This beautiful length of old cotton is stenciled using pigment based dyes--this kind of figured cloth is referred to as Nagoya sarasa.
The cotton is of good quality and the dyeing is hand-done, which is evident in the small flaws that are evidence of hand work.
The pattern is that of large-scale bamboo leaves against a background of arabesque or karakusa as it is referred to in Japan. The colors are rich and saturated and the cloth itself is slightly stiff in texture. The condition and is good and used.
