A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Two Sided
mid twentieth century
48" x 13", 122 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of katazome dyed cotton which has been resisted on both sides, meaning that the pattern of the cloth is equally clear on front and back.
The pattern is that of a crest of two "commas" against a background of brick-like paving stones. The indigo dye is most likely not botanical indigo, which is in keeping with the historical era when this was dyed.
In very good, used condition, this is a lovely length of katazome dyed cotton showing an unusual design.
