A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Indian Inspiration

$95.00 USD

late nineteenth, early twentieth century
36" x 13 3/4", 91 cm x 34.9 cm

The crowded pattern of katazome dyed cotton shows so many exotic flowers and was clearly influenced by Indian chintz or trade cloth.

The black and grey details add depth and richness to the pattern and looking carefully at individual flowers in the array presented here is delightful. Some are extremely unusual or "exotic."

The length of hand woven cotton is in good, used condition, slightly faded with age but not terribly--and not unexpectedly.

Rich in surface pattern and wondrously rendered this is a good length of katazome cloth that indicates the Japanese admiration for Indian trade cloth.
