A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Four-and-a-Half Flower Clusters
early twentieth century
66" x 13 1/4", 167.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is lovely length of indigo dyed cotton which is dyed in the stencil resist, or katazome, dyed technique. The cotton is of beautiful quality as it is hand woven of hand spun cotton yarns.
The motif which is repeated down the center of the cloth is that of a pair of two stylized chrysanthemums and there are four and a half of these designs imprinted on the cloth.
In good, used condition, this is a handsome length of katazome dyed cotton from old Japan.
