A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Fanciful Gourds

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
33" x 13 1/2", 84 cm x 34 cm

This is an unusual katazome pattern that shows a repeat pattern of highly stylized and interestingly decorated gourds or hyotan: some show checkerboards, some show asanoha or the hemp leaf pattern, some are mottled. The background is a carpet of leaves, in this case they seem to be ivy.

The repeat design is fun and the checkerboard gourds are especially nice with their richly graphic appeal.

The length is in good, used condition and the indigo tone is still rich with very little fading.

A charming length of katazome dyed cotton, the image being equally bright  and clear on both sides, front and back.
