A Length of Katazome Dyed Cotton: Faint Pattern and Snowflakes
early twentieth century
26" x 13", 66 cm x 33 cm
This is a beautifully dark-toned fragment of white-on-blue indigo dyed katazome cotton whose pattern is faintly resisted on the surface of the cloth.
The repeat is that of a stylized snowflake against which is a floral or garden motif, interspersed by what seem to be either lattice of paving stones.
The impression of this motif onto the cloth is weak, which has its own charm.
A really delightful length of katazome cloth in fairly good, used condition.
