A Length of Katazome Boro: Beautiful Blue and Two Patches
ca. early twentieth century
46" x 13 1/2", 117 cm x 34.25 cm
What an attractive length of boro cotton.
The base of this boro textile is of indigo dyed katazome cloth, the pattern shown on the cloth is a traditional and often-seen motif which was used primarily for bedding, that of large-scale peonies within a field of arabesque.
On the length there are two hand stitched patches, one of plain indigo and one of a kasuri cotton. The cloth has been lightly starched.
It is a really pleasant-looking, boro textile, with good age, fine color and an artful placing of its patches.Lovely.
