A Length of Indigo Dyed Shibori: Hand Spun Cotton Yarns
early twentieth century
52 1/2" x 12 3/4", 133 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a starkly dyed and richly colored length of indigo dyed cotton shibori. And it is beautiful.
The cotton is hand spun and hand loomed; the indigo is botanical and is velvety in appearance. The pattern that graces this length of cloth is a simple yet graphically appealing one: it is composed of alternating images which are evenly spaced down the length of this dark, white-on-blue length of cotton.
This length was taken from what appears to have been a garment so there are ingrained creases set into the cloth. Still, the cotton length is good condition for its age and the blue and white colors are rich and vivid.
A beautiful length of rustic shibori from old Japan.
