A Length of Indigo Dyed Shibori Cotton: Arrow Feather Motif
early twentieth century
29" x 13", 73.5 cm x 33 cm
This short length of indigo dyed shibori cotton is really lovely for its dark indigo, its good cotton and most of all, for its boldly graphic appeal.
The pattern is one of contrasting chevrons, which is probably meant to be a traditional arrow feather or yabane motif. Within the inky toned indigo passages are two white tie dyed motifs: pine needles and round, blank splotches.
Just wonderful: a really beautiful, small piece of indigo dyed cotton shibori.
