A Length of Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: Chrysanthemums and Cherry Blossoms
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
44" x 12 3/4", 111.75 cm x 32.5 cm
This short length of indigo dyed katazome cotton shows an unusual, regular repeat pattern of stylized chrysanthemums and cherry blossoms which are stacked in alternate, diagonal rows.
The cherry blossoms read as a medium-tone blue while the chrysanthemums are white in color and are designed in a square-ish format with four leaves jutting outward from a central bloom.
The indigo color is still rich and warm, the quality of the cotton is still very good. The condition, also, is good for a length of hand loomed cotton that is one hundred years old.
