A Length of Indigo Dyed Katazome Cotton: Charming Stylized Design
late nineteenth century
31" x 13", 79 cm x 33 cm
This is a charmingly designed length of indigo dyed cotton. It shows two types of stylized chrysanthemums set in a repeat patterns amid a field of arabesque.
There are ochre and black toned details on this length which gives the design depth and variety.
The cotton appears to be hand woven, probably hand spun, and the surface is slightly scuffed and unevenly faded due to its age and the hard wear it must have received.
The colors are still fairly strong and the design is utterly delightful. As stated there is some wear to the piece but that is to be expected for something 100 years old.
Delightful.
