A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Shiboro: Banana Leaves
early to mid twentieth century
37" x 13", 94 cm x 33 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori cloth which was taken from the sleeve of a yukata which is a casual, unlined summer kimono.
The large-scale pattern shown on this length seems to depict banana leaves, an image which appeared on everyday kimono during the 1930s and 40s.
The length shows some ingrained creases from its former life as a garment but it is in good condition for its age and its former use as a yukata. Please note the faint stain as pictured in the accompanying detail photo.
A great pattern.
