A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Shibori: Twin Clusters
52" x 12 1/2", 132 cm x 31.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori cloth. It was taken from a yukata or an unlined, casual kimono so still evident are some ingrained creases from its former.
The pattern is unusual and rather undefined. It seems to represent either highly stylized flowers--one in pairs, one single--or perhaps highly stylized ivy, it is impossible to say.
Whatever image it is it is set against a background of miura or dappled shibori which is done in two tones, a light tone for the ground and a darker one for the splotches. The miura dappling is large and is set in rows that are irregular and wavy.
The cotton cloth is of good quality and indigo and undyed cotton are still bright and clear.
