A Length of Indigo Dyed Cotton Shibori: Incense Naming Game

$30.00 USD

mid to late twentieth century
59 1/2" x 12 3/4", 151 cm x 32.5 cm

This is a length of indigo dyed cottonĀ shibori which shows a dense field of clustered blue dappling with intermittent geometric symbols, the symbols are an allusion to an ancient incense guessing game or sorts, and this symbol was one of 25 used in this parlor game.

This length of shibori dyed cotton was taken from a yukata, an unlined summer kimono, and because this cloth was once part of a garment, it shows ingrained creases from wear.

From a distance the cloth appears to have a slightly mottled, medium-toned color, but upon closer inspection the fine pattern of spots can be seen.

A lovely length of traditional shibori dyed cotton.
